Internet Sharing Solutions (Part 3) By Thiravudh Khoman Update Notes: 16-Jul-2001 Upon my return to Thailand, I decided to re-visit WinRoute Pro. It's still on version 4.1, but the latest build is 27. I downloaded this new version because I needed something that worked with Windows 2000. Aside from this, I'm using Ji-Net as my ISP, and for some reason, Ji-Net doesn't have a caching proxy server. Thus, I needed something like WinRoute's proxy server to provide some sort of caching. Alas, it's been ages since I last used/wrote about WinRoute. Thus, I had to re-read my own article. (If you haven't guessed yet, that's WHY I write a lot of my pieces - i.e. as a reminder for myself). Anyway, everything worked fine as I had earlier prescribed except for one thing: the web browser on the WinRoute host refused to use WinRoute's cache. For some reason, I didn't notice this the first time around. Anyway, the workaround is fairly simple: I assigned a proxy server to the Ji-Net dial-up networking connection - as opposed to assigning a proxy server to the LAN settings. Makes sense. |
