Internet Sharing Solutions (Part 2) By Thiravudh Khoman Update Notes: 26-Jan-2000 My computer buddy Petch has installed AnalogX on a network with 14 users sharing a single 56k modem. AnalogX is mainly used for browsing, although 2-3 POP mail users have also been configured. The general consensus is that the speed is "acceptable" compared to modem-dialed connections. What the users especially like is that they can now surf the net using a single shared account (thanks to a kind hearted individual) and their telephone extensions are now freer to accept voice calls. I decided to try it for myself and while the speed was frankly a bit slow for my tastes, it was indeed "acceptable". In my opinion, though, 14 users is stretching it; I'd limit the number to no more than 10. |
