Free Web and POP Email By Thiravudh Khoman Update Notes: 04-Feb-2000 I just visited mail.ru (see below) again today. Wow, what a change! The site is prettier and supports English as well as Russian now. As indicated below, it supports web and POP3 access, as well as mail forwarding. For those of you who don't mind having your mail server in Mother Russia. Update Notes: 28-Jan-2000 For information on more free email services, check out: http://freemarketsites.virtualave.net/390.htm. 313 webmail, 26 popmail, and 58 mail fowarding sites are listed here. Obviously, there is an ever growing number of free web/popmail establishments out there now, so do look for something that best fits your needs. Update Notes: 10-Dec-1999 Peter Lindquist wrote into Post Database (December 8, 1999) to say that a program called CWebMail exists that allows a POP3 mail client to work with HotMail. I tried CWebMail recently and apparently, the website that is used to act as an intermediary no longer exists. I understand, though, that there's a similar French program called "Web2POP" and I believe Outlook Express 5 has the ability to "pop" HotMail in-built. Update Notes: 10-Oct-1999 I received an email from Alex Vasko informing me of another free mail service that supports both webmail and popmail. This one's based in Russia at http://www.mail.ru and unfortunately (for most of us) the instructions are in Russian (although I could have sworn that I got English screens when I first tried it). Anyway, if you have web/popmail needs and want to practice your Russian at the same time, give it a visit. |
